A city in Arizona named Chandler has begun accepting cryptocurrency as a mode of payment to pay utility bills. Customers who have their cryptocurrency linked to PayPal can clear out their bills.
Chandler Decides To Evolve
The decision to adopt cryptocurrency as a mode of payment was in talks during March. Followed by the authorities determining if this was the feasible option for residents of Chandler or not. Chandler is known to be one of the first “valley” cities to offer cryptocurrency payment. A council member of Chandler, Mark Strewart states,
“Digital currency and blockchain are advancing quickly, and as the Community of Innovation, we feel it is important to be on the forefront of this technology and offer it to our residents as a payment method for utility payments and other fees.”
How Does Crypto Payment Function Via PayPal?
By opting for PayPal as the mode of payment, the cryptocurrency option will be immediately displayed during the checkout. It must be noted that only customers who are logged in can avail this option. The city of Arizona has also requested its present payment partner Invoice Cloud to incorporate an additional payment option to pay utility bills. The Deputy City Manager, Dawn Lang briefly explains,
“Invoice Cloud will manage the conversion of cryptocurrency payment into dollars, thereby eliminating any market volatility risk for Chandler.”
It must be highlighted that Chandler is not the first city in the United States to adopt cryptocurrency as a payment method for utility bills. Mercedes, Texas, and Williston, North Dakota are the two cities that voted for crypto payments.
